About Michelle

Michelle Kwiec is a licensed clinical social worker. Michelle is truly passionate about providing therapy and has been working with patients 18 and older since 1992. She is warm, compassionate, and knowledgeable. She has a varied background after working in several different settings with different types of patients. She uses her training in biology and years of experience in medical settings to explain the neuroscience behind some of the symptoms her patients describe. This helps them understand why and how specific approaches can help them. Michelle feels that every person is the expert on their life. She’s interested in hearing their experiences and providing a sounding board for them to share what’s bothering them. She asks a lot of questions to help them figure out the heart of their concerns. Her goal is to connect with patients so they understand they’re not alone and can recover. Michelle is a very interactive therapist. In her first session, she lets patients know up-front what they can expect from her and what work they can expect to need to complete in-session and between sessions. She believes in being respectful, honest, and direct in empowering patients to tackle their problems. Michelle offers a variety of approaches to help patients reach their goals. She is primarily a cognitive-behavioral therapist and relies heavily on rational emotive behavior therapy and dialectical-behavioral therapy. But she also uses a variety of other approaches, including mindfulness, motivational interviewing, EMDR and holistic treatments, depending on her patients’ needs. Michelle has experience treating a wide range of mental health concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship issues, PTSD, mood disorders, and more. In her spare time, Michelle loves to exercise, travel, hike, listen to audiobooks, and learn about other cultures. She has a legendary sweet tooth and adores her two adopted pups, Bucky and Stark, and her ornery old cat Jessie. Michelle enjoys working for SohoMD because an amazing team of professionals is there to support both providers and patients. She loves having enough support to focus solely on providing the very best care she can.
