About Melissa

Melissa Ciarcia is a licensed clinical social worker. Melissa has over a decade of experience working with patients in underserved populations, particularly homeless youth and young adults, the LGBTQIA+ community, sexual abuse survivors, domestic violence survivors, and human trafficking survivors. Her specialty is providing culturally competent complex trauma treatment. Melissa works with her patients, going at their pace as she guides them through therapy as they regain their sense of safety, healing, and peace. She takes the time to learn about her patients, why they’re seeking therapy, and how she can help guide them toward effective treatment. Her goal is to help her patients cultivate resilience so they can see their inner strengths and find hope in all areas of their lives. Melissa uses the following evidence-based practices: trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and play and art therapy. She is a level-2 certified clinical trauma professional. Melissa’s patients can expect dedication, guidance, compassion, and careful listening during sessions. She often uses art and writing therapies to help patients tap into their creativity and self-expression. Melissa has been providing therapy since 2012 and works with patients ages 11-65. She treats a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, stress, trauma, PTSD, gender issues, and mood disorders. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys painting, drawing, hiking, attending concerts, and spending time with her rescue cat, Ripley. She self-published a comic book about youth struggling with mental health issues. Melissa enjoys working with SohoMD because its focus is on serving patients instead of maximizing profits. She appreciates the ongoing support she receives as a provider.
